Summary

This workshop (3 evenings) helps trainers/coaches of sports associations in the sporting development of young athletes in a positive climate.

Detailed description

The core task of a trainer/coach is to help young athletes to develop their sporting skills. That is more than training the technical and tactical skills of the sport they practice. It is important that the young athlete develops in four domains: physical, mental (cognitive), social and emotional. They are inextricably linked. A positive, empathetic, understanding and consciously acting trainer/coach will be able to help with this. Positive coaching demonstrably leads to less drop-out of athletes, better performance, more fun for both athletes and trainer/coaches, greater social safety and a development-oriented sports climate.

For whom?

Trainers/coaches of youth athletes and teams in the municipality of Apeldoorn.

Method

As a basis for the workshop 'Positive Coaching', we use the '4 insights about coaching': structuring, stimulating, giving individual attention and transferring control. The workshop is interactive, in which the input and learning questions of the participants are central. As a participant you will receive a preparation assignment in advance of the first evening. That takes about 1 hour. After the first and second evening, processing assignments are given to make at home.

What are you learning?

You will learn to reflect on your role as a trainer/coach, to visualize your strong and yet to be developed skills as a trainer/coach and how you can stimulate athletes in their sports experience by means of:

  • Creating a safe development climate for every athlete,
  • asking open questions,
  • Using growth-oriented language,
  • Coaching on process and less on results,
  • Expressing appreciation: complimenting in a targeted and sincere manner,
  • Giving constructive feedback/feed forward,
  • Giving personal attention to each player so that each player feels seen, heard and valued,
  • Inviting athletes to think about what and how they want to learn, agreements you make with each other, implementation of training and solutions in competitions.

Dates and time

The workshop consists of three evenings and will take place on Thursdays November 3, November 17 and the third evening from 7.30 pm to 9.45 pm. Entry is from 7:15 PM.
