Summary
Peter is an 81-year-old man with a mental disability. During the week he has day care, but in the weekend he seems to be bored.Detailed description
Who is Peter:
Peter is an 81-year-old man with a severe intellectual disability. He lives in a residential group within the grounds of 's Heeren Loo where he receives 24-hour care. His level can be compared to that of a 1 to 2-year-old. Peter is blind and often has his eyes closed. Structure and clarity are therefore important to him. He has a sense of humor and enjoys communicating with fellow clients at their level. He then names names and can imitate them. He can also be "concerned" about fellow clients. If someone is not there, he asks where that person is and if someone sneezes, he says "bless you". Unfortunately, his speech is getting worse as he gets older. But supervisors can help you to understand him. All in all, a sweet man. Peter is in a wheelchair. During the week he goes to day care, but he seems to get bored at the weekend. It would therefore be very nice if someone came for him at the weekend to take him for a nice walk in the residential care park or to the church service at 's Heeren Loo. He enjoys this in his own way. The church service is adapted to everyone's level and is for everyone. One sings all the songs, for another it is a bit of coming together and recognition and for yet another faith is important. The service is from 10:30 to 11:30. An hour of great added value for Peter.
What is Peter asking?
For Peter we are looking for a sweet volunteer who takes the time to get to know Peter. Someone who comes once a week, once every 2 weeks or once a month in the weekend for an hour to walk with Peter (in the wheelchair) or to go to church with him. If Peter knows you longer, he will learn your name and look forward to your visits. A volunteer who can offer him clarity, structure and proximity. Will you come and meet him? The coffee is ready.
