Summary

Gerrit-Jan likes to fish, but cannot do this alone due to his intellectual disability

Detailed description

Who is Gerrit-Jan?

Gerrit-Jan is a man of 74 years old and has a moderate intellectual disability, comparable to toddler age. He lives in a residential group at our residential care park and receives 24-hour guidance here. Gerrit-Jan likes listening to music, likes shuffleboard and likes to fish. He has a fishing license and likes to fish in the summer months where his license is valid and at the trout farm in Emst. He is reasonably mobile and can walk a short distance. He talks in a Veluwe dialect, but he is easily understood. He knows well what he does and does not want and needs a moment to think about a question. Sometimes he can come across as a bit stubborn and can get angry if he doesn't get his way. You can compare this to the behavior of a toddler. Fortunately, he is easy to guide in this and a chat afterwards often helps enough.

What does Gerrit-Jan ask?

For Gerrit-Jan we are looking for a volunteer who wants to fish with him during the summer months.

The day or time doesn't matter. Regularity in meeting is more important.

Gerrit is very much looking forward to a visit.

Someone he clicks with and someone who can reassure him.

A volunteer who has a car with which he/she can pick up Gerrit to drive to the fishing spot or to the trout farm. Gasoline costs will of course be reimbursed.
