Summary
Janet likes quiet but is in for a joke. Do you want to play a game with her, enjoy a bike ride, have lunch somewhere or just have a nice cup of coffee?Detailed description
Who is Janet?
Janet is a 53-year-old woman with an intellectual disability. She has a great sense of humor and is in for a laugh. She prefers peace and quiet rather than crowds. She enjoys watching television, listening to music, playing games, cycling and going out for lunch. She likes to send cards to the people close to her. She can read, write and count at group 6 level. She functions socially and emotionally at a toddler level. She has a great need for structure and regularity and sometimes has difficulty when things go differently as she expected. Sometimes she can get really angry about this. As a volunteer you will of course be taught how to deal with this. She likes predictability and not unexpected things.
What is Janet asking?
She is looking for a buddy, preferably a woman between 40 and 60 years old.
Someone who visits her once a month, preferably at the weekend.
Someone who wants to do fun things with her and who likes cycling, a game or a nice lunch just like she does. Just someone who comes especially for her. This doesn't have to be long.
Someone who doesn't back down when it becomes too much for her and who could support her in this.
Someone who, like her, does not like crowds, but who is looking for peace and quiet.
It is expected that she will be very happy to do something with a volunteer and that she will show her appreciation with a radiant smile.
