Dealing with people with visual impairments

You meet a lot of people in your volunteer work. They may also include people with visual impairment. A visual impairment means that vision is limited, for example due to visual impairment or blindness. There are approximately 300,000 people with a visual impairment in the Netherlands.

Knowledge about recognizing and dealing with people with a visual impairment can help you understand the other person better and make communication run more smoothly. This allows people with visual impairment to participate better in society.

Martin and Petra, trainer and information officer at Visio, explain visual impairments. In addition to theory, they also work on experiential exercises. This way you experience what it is like to live with a visual impairment. An expert will also talk about his life with a visual impairment. Of course there is also room for your questions.

This theme meeting is organized by the Expertise Promotion working group for volunteers who work with people with disabilities. Participating in this are: Apeldoorn Pakt Aan, De Kap, Klimmendaal, MEE Samen, Riwis, De Passarel, Uniek sports and Zorggroep Apeldoorn. Every year we jointly organize theme meetings for volunteers from Apeldoorn who work with people with disabilities.
